About

Ang Pahayagang Plaridel (APP) is a monthly Filipino student publication of De La Salle University-Manila. It caters to the student population within the campus and has a network circulation of 70 other institutions. APP is staffed with a vibrant group of student reporter dedicated to bringing the news and current affairs of the institution to light.

Challenge

The original site (plaridel.com) was setup in 2003 to bring the content of the newspaper online. Withstanding the lack of a proper content management system, the site was manually updated. Each release publication has hand-coded and created as a new page.

In an attempt to manage the volume of growing content, the staff of APP created their own version of a content management system. The content management system in its infancy was not a completely collaborative system, composing mainly of sepetare modules.

Solution

Following a through analysis of the needs of Plaridel, a proper content management framework was proposed. By utilizing Siteplate, the organization could fully manage their content system from a centralized location. After designing the template for Plaridel, the plugins necessary were setup. From that point on, Plaridel was responsible for encoding the content.

Results

The ECMS took care to automatically posting the relevant new to its proper section. It kept track of all necessary information and facilitated their move from the previous system. At present, the staffers of Plaridel simply post the new content to the website permitting them more time to do perform their tasks as campus journalists.
