About
De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) was originally created as a night school for working students of De La Salle University-Manila. Since its creation the school has transformed into a self-contained institution offering many degree programs and expanding curriculum. It currently crates to approximately 2,500 students and hundreds of faculty and staff. Challenge
The development of the Intranet originally began with a revised version of the Internet website. It used a login system that tied into the existing Windows login system. However, the original system lacked the robustness required for the usage of the university. Furthermore, the original system had no centralized management system, utilizing several independent components. Other restraints required that one site be made for the students, and another intranet be created for the faculty and staff.
Solution
After recognizing their online challenges, the Web Committee of DLS-CSB decided to implement a content management system that involved their students, faculty and staff. Involving non-technical staffs, who were primarily responsible for internal communications for the university, aided in the distribution of information. DLS-CSB also needed a content management system that granted users ownership of their respective content, provided easy administration and a quick training time for employees, reducing reliance on IT and other technical staff. After researching several content management providers, the university selected Siteplate as the ideal Web content management solution. With Siteplate ECMS, the university was able to simplify the creation and publication of content for the Intranet. Siteplate’s easy to use and flexible interface allowed DLS-CSB to combine its different processes for updating content across the college.
Results
The move to Siteplate was to be a complete overhaul of their original Intranet. The transition from the original to the new version took approximately less than 200 hours. The content transfer was the most time consuming since a lot of the previous information was not properly documented inside a database. As the DLS-CSB Intranet content management process has become more automated with Siteplate, the college continues to experience significant benefits as more internal content is managed through the ECMS. Siteplate’s flexible templating, which separates content from layout, allows for instantaneous content updates.
